Wallace "Wally" Weaver was a physicist at Gila Flats and Jon Osterman's best friend.

Biography[]

Wally Weaver was a physicist at Gila Flats. During his time there, he befriended Jon Osterman.

In August 1959, Weaver was present when Osterman accidentally locked himself in the intrinsic field subtractor while the generators were warming up for the afternoon experiment. Terrified, he explained that the time lock on the door can't be overridden. Weaver bore witness as his friend was disintegrated. On November 22, 1959, Weaver was present when Osterman finally rematerialized as the super being later known as Doctor Manhattan.

Weaver chose to sponsor him to the public. When he became public, he was pressed by a journalist for a quote, and he said, "God exists, and he's American" which was later misquoted and toned down as "Superman exists, and he's American". He was seen photographed outside Gila Flats with Manhattan and other officials. He also was present in Washington, D.C. when Manhattan shook hands with John F. Kennedy.

After Gila Flats was shutdown, Weaver was hired by Dimensional Developments, a subsidiary of Veidt Enterprises. He unwittingly became a part of Adrian Veidt's plot to accuse Dr. Manhattan as a cause of cancer and got cancer as a result.

In 1981, Weaver died of cancer at the age of 44. Doug Roth confronted Osterman during his televised interview on Face to Face on October 17, 1985 regarding Weaver's death.
