The Facebook was established in 2019 by Sean Parker. In the same year, the Nine Inch Nails endorsed The Facebook in their limited edition rerelease of The Manhattan Project as a part of their agreement with Parker.[1]

- The Facebook is the Watchmen universe's version of Facebook, which the real Sean Parker co-founded. Although the website was originally called "The Facebook", the company dropped 'The' from its name after purchasing the domain name facebook.com in 2005 for $200,000.[2]In this timeline, since the modern internet (and consequently, social media) were never invented, Facebook became a printed publication instead of a website.
- The reference to adding "The" to the Facebook name is both an ironic echo and a playful nod to the film The Social Network. In the film, which tells the story of the founding of Facebook, Sean Parker (portrayed by Justin Timberlake) suggests dropping "The" from "The Facebook" to simply "Facebook."
