Pachyderm Mom (known in Vietnamese as Mẹ Pachyderm) is a book by Bian My.
History[]
Upon its release, Pachyderm Mom became a bestseller in Vietnam and in the commonwealths of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Burma. The book details Bian My’s ambition to mold her daughter, Lady Trieu, into the world’s smartest woman destined to be "brighter than a sky full of stars, a redemptive blessing to the world planet.” Inspired by the liberators and architects of Pax America, which she includes Richard Nixon, Doctor Manhattan, the Comedian, and Adrian Veidt, Bian believed that it was time to add a female face to the proverbial Mount Rushmore. Bian's methods for growing a super genius include isolation, tough love, and enhanced transcendental meditation techniques.
Trivia[]
- The style of parenting Bian My describes in Pachyderm Mom is based on tiger parenting, a style in which parents push and pressure their children to attain high levels of academic achievement or success in high-status extracurricular activities such as music, using authoritarian parenting methods. In fact the terminology behind "tiger parenting" was coined by Yale Law School professor Amy Chua in her 2011 memoir Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother.
- A pachyderm is an obsolete term used to describe a very large mammal with thick skin such as an elephant, rhinoceros, and a hippopotamus.
