Milk & Hanoi

Milk & Hanoi is a bakery in Tulsa owned by Angela Abar, which also served as her secret base of operations as Sister Night.[1]

History[]

Following the White Night, Angela Abar maintained a civilian identity of a retired police officer opening up a bakery. Unknown to the general public as well as her children, Milk & Hanoi served as her base of operations under the secret identity of mask detective Sister Night.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Angela's bakery answering machine says, “where we let Saigons be Saigons” (wordplay on "let bygones by bygones"), this is a deliberate observation on how in Watchmen's alternate timeline, Saigon was allowed to keep its name.
  • In real life, Hanoi is the current capital of Vietnam. In the Watchmen timeline, however, Saigon was promoted to become the country's capital following the United States' victory in the Vietnam War.
  • The logo for Milk & Hanoi features a field of red, featuring a golden star in the upper left quadrant, embraced in the arc of a golden croissant. The visual humor is apparent; it's either mimicking the hammer and sickle from the flag of the Soviet Union or the star configuration on the flag of China. The croissant is also a nod to the French, who occupied Vietnam and influenced its culture - ranging from its written language to its cuisine.
  • The real world flag of Vietnam, one central golden star on a field of red, matches the bakery's logo.
