The Lord of Cartwithen Castle is an English aristocrat and original owner of Cartwithen Castle in North Wales.
Biography[]
Early life[]
The lord resided in Cartwithen Castle alongside his wife and son. At some point, his son fell ill and died. He and his wife would attempt to have another child again as they believe that it's God's will.
Meeting Jon Osterman[]
During World War II, the lord and his wife utilized their home as a refugee sanctuary for continental refugees fleeing Nazi persecution and immigrating to the United States.
In 1936, the lord and lady were about to engage in sex, however, the man spotted a young Jewish-German immigrant named Jon Osterman peaking from the wardrobe. Startled, the boy ran away. Later that day, the couple find Jon and his father Hans eating at the dinner table. Hans thanks them for opening their home to them and has Jon introduce himself. The man asks to speak to Jon in private, and the couple take him to the chapel. They say that it's alright that Jon saw them and what he saw was a beautiful thing because they were creating life. They explain to a young Jon that they had a son that would have been Jon's age now, but he fell ill and died. The man says that it's God's will for them to try again and proceeds to give him a Bible. Jon tells them that his father doesn't believe in religion, but the woman says that it's alright, because they are still beautiful stories. The couple asks Jon to make it his purpose to create something beautiful when he goes to America.
Legacy[]
When Doctor Manhattan left Earth in 1985, he was unsure of what to do, Osterman thought back to the day in his youth in 1936 when he met the kindly couple that told him to make something beautiful when he got older.
Osterman decided to settle down on Jupiter's moon of Europa, and with his matter-bending abilities created an atmospheric shell of a few miles, which he terraformed into a bountiful land filled with endless plant life, fruits, animals, and a humanoid species based in appearance on the kindly lord and lady of the manor Osterman had stayed in all those years ago. He completed this process in ninety seconds. The species was designed to care only for others and not at all for themselves, with the males being known as Mr. Phillips and the females being known as Ms. Crookshanks. Finally, Osterman teleported Cartwithen Castle itself to Europa for the new species to live within.
