Elizabeth "Liz" Lane is a dominatrix who operated under the name Twilight Lady. She was attracted to Nite Owl II and even worked together to investigate a series of prostitute murders under the name Sin Queen.

Biography[]

Relationship With Nite Owl[]

Twilight Lady befriended Nite Owl II when a fight between him and a criminal spilled over into her place of work. Falling for the hero and inspired by his heroic actions, she adopted the "Sin Queen" alias and became a superhero. She helped investigate a series of prostitute murders along with Nite Owl II and a jealous Rorschach. Dreiberg's relationship with Sin Queen became known to his mentor, Hollis Mason, stating that being involved with her would ruin his image with the children.

Sin Queen continued to work with Dreiberg and even defeated a drug dealer, who was suspected of the prostitute murders. Later that night, Twilight Lady and Nite Owl II, removed their costumes and revealed their identities to her each other. She revealed her name to Dreiberg as Elizabeth Lane. Upon discovering each other's real identity, they became more comfortable with one another and later had sex.

The murderer of the prostitutes turned out to be a fire and brimstone minister named Dean Taylor, whom Rorschach had befriended as Walter Kovacs; Nite Owl rescued the Sin Queen, whom the minister kidnaped and threatened to burn alive. Despite his obvious dislike for her, Rorschach saves her from the minister and offers his hand to pull her up. The near-death experience caused her to give up her would-be career as a hero. Lane later breaks up with Dreiberg after this incident as she fears that she will be vulnerable if she falls in love. Despite Dreiberg's pleas she still leaves him, hoping he will find someone better.

Relocating to France[]

In 1970, Twilight Lady moved to France after spending two years in prison where she vanished into obscurity.

Legacy[]

Laurie Juspeczyk, while staying with Dan Dreiberg, found Lane's autographed photograph in his cabinet. Dreiberg felt uneasy and lied to Laurie about her being a former lover of his, and passed her off as a criminal who was fixated on him to hide their relationship. He deliberately misremembered her name as "Dusk Woman or something" and commented that she was a "sick woman".

That night, he saw Twilight Lady in a dream. She waited for him in a desert and he ran towards her in agony. They embraced and undressed, and she ripped Dreiberg's skin to uncover the Nite Owl II underneath. Then he did the same to her and uncovered Silk Spectre II. The two kissed and perished in a nuclear explosion.

Commentary[]

  • Her name "Liz Lane" may be a play on words for Superman's love interest and Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane.
