June Abar was the former wife of Will Reeves, also secretly known as the first vigilante Hooded Justice. June was also the grandmother of Angela Abar, who would become a vigilante herself.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Born in 1921, June Abar was at the heart of Tulsa when it came under attack by the members of the Ku Klux Klan. She was on board a truck with her family when Will Reeves was put alongside her in order to escape. The truck later crashed with Will and June being the only survivors.[2][3] Years later, the duo married and moved to New York City. Will became a police officer and began investigating the Cyclops under the identity of Hooded Justice. June left Will with her son, Marcus, following an outburst during his time as a costumed adventurer.[3]
Return to Tulsa[]
Abar moved back to her birthplace of Tulsa, Oklahoma and found work as a reporter for the Tulsa Star-Sentinel. On June 1, 1955, June wrote an article called "Oklahoma Senator Slams Hooded Justice For Defying HUAC", about Joseph David Keene's public rebuking of Hooded Justice for his refusal to testify before the House UnAmerican Activities Committee.
Meeting Her Granddaughter[]
When the Vietnam War went underway, Marcus told June that he wanted to fight. June told him that if he did this, she didn’t want to speak to him ever again. Marcus still went and stayed in Saigon even after the war had ended. It wasn’t until Marcus and his wife were killed in an explosion and June finding out she has a granddaughter that she went to Vietnam. Upon finding Angela, she brought her to Burgers 'N' Borscht, wanting to find out more about the child. They talk about the movie Sister Night and why Marcus didn’t want Angela to see it. June asks Angela if she wants to go to Tulsa, and she says yes. While checking their bags in a taxi, June suddenly collapses, having suffered a heart attack. The taxi driver yells for help, and Angela confirms that her grandmother had died.[4]
