Hector Godfrey is the editor-in-chief at the right-wing daily newspaper, the New Frontiersman.

Biography[]

Hector Godfrey is known to be a champion of masked vigilantism, with the exception of the liberal Ozymandias, not in spite of their perceived fascist tendencies but because of them. After the arrest of Walter Kovacs, it was discovered that he bundled past issues of the New Frontiersman in his apartment and Godfrey was asked for a comment. Godfrey stated that Rorschach should perhaps be reassessed as a patriot and a true American.[1]

On January 1, 1987, Godfrey complained how there was no longer nothing to write about since the destruction of New York City and the peace accord between the United States and the Soviet Union. Seymour suggests that they should write a piece about Robert Redford's possible run for office in 1988, Godfrey dismisses the pitch, but tells him to choose something out of the crank file, leaving it entirely in his hands.[2]

Personality[]

Hector Godfrey has a "prissy" personality, affecting tightly buttoned shirts and ties and eating his hamburger with both pinkies extended. He would seem to be extremely hardworking, as he is able to turn out a daily newspaper with only one not-very-able assistant and one unreliable cartoonist. This diligence comes from his sense of mission, to keep the voice of "truth and honor", as he sees it, heard. His views, to judge from the sample and quotes from his paper that we see are paranoid and racist but courageous and honest to his own sense of right and wrong.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • In the 2009 film adaptation, Godfrey is portrayed by L. Harvey Gold, however, he is credited as "New Frontiersman Editor".
