Hollis Mason's Books

Gladiator is a science fiction novel by author Philip Wylie.

History[]

Hollis Mason owned a copy of Gladiator and kept it on his bookshelf, right between a book on automotive maintenance and two copies of Under the Hood.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Gladiator is widely assumed to have been an inspiration for Superman due to similarities between the book's protagonist, Hugo Danner, and the earliest versions of Superman who debuted in 1938, though no confirmation exists that Superman creators Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster were directly influenced by Philip Wylie's work.
