Encountering the Comedian[]
Gavin Turley enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. During his time in Vietnam, he and his unit were sent to extract the Comedian from an abandoned post after the Tet Offensive. The Comedian was sent to the post to rescue a nurse who was left behind. When they safely left the extraction point, Turley and the Comedian share some common grounds over their nonchalance of violence. Their river boat was later ambushed in which the nurse was fatally shot. Turley and his men made it out when the Comedian charged into the jungle, forcing them to leave him behind.
Turley saw Blake again on VVN Night when President Richard Nixon came to congratulate the troops. Turley was coming to see Nixon's speech before he saw the Comedian standing with Doctor Manhattan.
