S1e8 plan a

Adrian Veidt presents "Plan A".

The Tachyon Ring is a device invented by Adrian Veidt.

History[]

Creation[]

The Tachyon Ring was invented by Adrian Veidt in 1979; intended as a contingency plan to use against Doctor Manhattan as part of his master plan to "save the world". Veidt called the ring "Plan A" (the 'A' standing for amnesia). However, he never used it because he would have had to find a way to force it right into Manhattan's head, which would be impossible unless he allowed it to happen.[1]

Used by Doctor Manhattan[]

On December 13, 2009, Doctor Manhattan, now under the guise of Calvin Jelani, visited Adrian Veidt in Karnak, Antarctica and asked for his help in rendering his powers to become human again. Veidt offers him the Tachyon Ring he had created three decades prior, and in exchange, Manhattan offers to teleport Veidt to his Europa ecosystem, where the Mr. Phillips and the Ms. Crookshanks clones will serve and adore him as he so desires; Veidt accepts his offer.

Tachyon Ring - Watchmen (TV series)

Angela Abar extracts the Tachyon Ring from Cal Abar's forehead.

Manhattan returns to Saigon, Vietnam and gives the Tachyon Ring to Angela Abar after explaining the purpose of the device. He gets down on knee and Abar kisses him on the forehead and says that she loves him. Manhattan says that he loves her too as she puts the device into his brain. The device proves to be successful as it inhibits Manhattan's memory, rendering him unable to use his powers except in life-or-death circumstances. He leaves Vietnam with Angela and Manhattan officially adopts the identity of Calvin Abar.[1]

Device Removal[]

In 2019, Angela Abar returned home after escaping the Trieu Industries facility. Her husband, Cal, found her rummaging through the kitchen for a hammer. Angela told him to listen to her and says that she loves him. She then told Cal that it's time to come out of the tunnel, finds a hammer, and says that they always knew the day would come but Cal doesn't remember. When Cal asked if they talked about it before the accident, Angela stated that the accident was a lie so that they could be together. She explained that it was Cal's idea, and Cal figures that she's confused from the Nostalgia. Angela then called Cal "Jon" and says that he's not himself, she then proceeds to hit him in the head with the hammer. She then kneels over him and pounds on his head, reaches into the wound, and looks at the Tachyon Ring from his forehead. Cal's skin glows blue, and Angela stated that they're in trouble.[2][1]
