Charnel Messiah is a pirate comic book series written by Max Shea.

Max Shea wrote Charnel Messiah in the 1960s, and like most of the pirate comics he wrote, it blended different genres. Charnel Messiah was one of his most critically acclaimed works and was even adapted into film three times.[1][2]

- The word "charnel" is an adjective associated with death, and "messiah" is a savior or liberator of a group of people. A god associated with death who walks on water. This can be applied to Doctor Manhattan, a god-like being who has used his powers to destroy in the name of U.S. imperialism, most notably in Vietnam, and is seen as a "liberator" in the eyes of his admirers.
