Hans von Krupp was a former Nazi operative and costumed criminal known as Captain Axis.

Biography[]

During World War II, Hans von Krupp was a top official under Adolf Hitler up until June 1940 when he fell out of favor with the Nazi Party for failing to act on intelligence that could have prevented the Allied forces’ escape during the Battle of Dunkirk. Due to his mistake, von Krupp was called to be executed, but he fled for his life and emigrated to the United States. Though marked for death by the Third Reich, he remained fanatically loyal to Hitler. Allying with fifth columnists in America, he took on the role of a master saboteur known as Captain Axis, hoping to redeem himself in the eyes of the Führer.[1]

As Captain Axis, von Krupp became a famous saboteur, threatening factories, military installations, propaganda war films, and United Service Organizations (USO) events. On one occasion, he tried to implant single-frame subliminal messages into Clark Gable movies that read “Germany Must Win!”.[1]

von Krupp's actions brought him the attention of Minuteman member Nite Owl, who he became sworn enemies with. Captain Axis was eventually defeated by Nite Owl and was surrendered over to the authorities.[2]

At some point, he escaped from prison, but found himself a target of the Minutemen once more. In 1945, the Minutemen engage in a battle with Captain Axis on an Allied submarine near the Arctic CircleHooded Justice tossed the super-villain into the ocean, but never surfaces.[1]
