Calvin "Cal" Abar (née Jelani) was the former host of Jon Osterman/Dr. Manhattan.
Calvin's fictional history tells that he was born on November 22, 1976, in Philadelphia, PA. He had a father who had heart disease and Alzheimer's. Calvin himself had a tonsillectomy at some point.
Calvin moved to Vietnam for work at Pyramid Global Construction before he was either laid off or quit in April 2009 and was unemployed since.
At Rampart Memorial, the doctor described Calvin as having acute symptoms of dissociative fugue. (No recall, identity loss, and language issues.) Calvin initially refused treatment citing not having insurance, but Angela decided to take responsibility for him.
A tall, powerful man.
In conversation with his adopted children about death, Cal reveals that he is an atheist, and does not believe in a supernatural afterlife. His interaction with them was gentle and reassuring, and they seemed to be perfectly fine with the thought.
When dealing with Angela, particularly around the secretive nature of her work as Sister Night, Cal often makes reference to the fact that he hates lying. Nevertheless, he trusts Angela and keeps her secrets when she needs him to. Their relationship is depicted as very loving, healthy, and mutually supportive.
