Barry D. Shanes is a Vovinam martial arts master and master of psychic combat.
Biography[]
Barry D. Shanes worked as Lady Trieu’s personal tutor during her childhood. When Trieu was eleven years old, her mother, Bian My, ordered him to give Trieu a "final exam". The exam was a psychic combat duel to the death on multiple planes of existence, both corporal and mental. Shanes refused and quit working for the family.
In 2017, Shanes told Squidworld Digest about his time working as Trieu’s personal tutor and reasons for quitting.
On October 18, 2018, a spokeswoman for Trieu Industries denied Shanes' allegations against Bian in the Tulsa Star-Sentinel. Jay-Jay Whitman the society reporter for the newspaper's "Talk of Tulsa" section believes that the spokeswoman's non-denial denial of Shanes' allegations is "most suspious".

- Barry D. Shanes is a reference to Robert Deschaines from Watchmen. It's unclear if Barry is somehow related to Robert given the similarity to his name and him having psychic abilities of his own.
