- A mob of hundreds of white residents of Tulsa, Oklahoma stormed the county courthouse to take a white prisoner named Roy Belton into their own hands; they lynched him that night.[3][4]

- Oscar Micheaux’s film Trust in the Law!, a silent movie about Bass Reeves, is released in the United States. The film premieres at the Williams Dreamland Theatre in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

- A violent massacre known as the Tulsa race massacre occurs, resulting in the destruction of the prosperous black community of Tulsa, Oklahoma, leaving thousands of Tulsans homeless, businesses destroyed, and an entire neighborhood ransacked. As many as 300 black residents were murdered as a result of the massacre.[3][5]

- June Abar and Will Williams are smuggled out of Tulsa during the massacre via truck. The truck later crashes with Will and June being the only survivors.[5]
